House Plants

It's official. House plants are having a moment. Thanks to Pantone’s 2017 colour of the year ‘Greeney’ and the rise of the urban jungle on blogs sites like Instagram house plants are seeing a comeback, big time.

It doesn't seem to matter what type, or how many - anything goes.

Theming your plants can provide a cohesive feel but the best place to start is probably to choose something that not only works stylistically but will thrive in its environment.

Plants not only look good and soften a minimal interior but also have many known health benefits. Acting as a natural humidifier they add moisture to the air in your home keeping it fresher and helping to fend off colds. They also promote sleep and research suggests spending time around nature can reduce stress levels. So in today's high-stress, time-poor society bringing plants into your home could be just what you need to help you unwind.

And if you're not green fingered or don't have the time to look after living plants don't rule out adding some greenery into your home. You can enjoy this trend in plenty of other ways.

Painting a wall a deep vibrant green shouts indulgence but also vitality. Start buying a few freshly cut stems from your local florist each week to display around your home - vase, water, discard when done and refresh. For those feeling bold, picking out a tropical inspired wallpaper might appeal. If you're still unconvinced this theme is for you then a cushion or something easily interchangeable is a simple and inexpensive way to test the water.
